Residents Approve Capital Project for Duanesburg Elementary School Bus Loop
The Duanesburg Central School District will begin work on a new elementary school bus loop in June or July 2022 after town residents approved a referendum for the capital project on Thursday evening.
Residents voted 236 to 45 to use $ 1.4 million of unused funds the district has available to build a new bus loop near the elementary school athletic fields. The new loop is expected to reduce congestion and improve safety at the school, according to a district statement. Currently, parents, pedestrians and buses all exit the main school parking lot near the main entrance.
The school created extra space and redirected pickup and drop-off from parents to help reduce traffic in the meantime.
âWe are very satisfied with the results and the participation rate. I thank the residents for their approval of this important project, âsaid Superintendent James Niedermeier. âThis new bus loop will increase safety and efficiency during pickup and drop-off times, and we will also have additional parking for events, as well as a more visually appealing entrance for visitors and families to the neighborhood. “
The referendum also included the replacement of some school windows, according to the district.
